The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the Seattle area has grown steadily since its early days in the 1970s, when a handful of families gathered in living rooms and rented halls to hold prayers and study circles. What began as a small group of devoted members slowly took root across Washington, Idaho, and Montana, guided by volunteers whose dedication shaped the character of the chapter.
Among the earliest contributors were individuals whose commitment helped establish a stable foundation. Rashid Abdul Latif Rashidi Sahib, grandson of Sahibzada Abdul Lateef Shaheed, served as the first local president and helped organize the fledgling Jamaat. Aasim Zaki Bashiruddin Sahib, a convert from New York, became an active voice for outreach and worked with a Seattle TV station to air question-and-answer sessions with the Fourth Caliph. Sister Aisha Sial, one of the earliest converts in the region, and the family of Malik Mubarak Ahmed, who settled in Seattle in the 1980s, were also central to strengthening the community during its formative years.
A major turning point came in 1994, when the Fourth Caliph visited Seattle, energizing the membership and setting the stage for long-term development. In 2000, the community purchased its first permanent center in Lynnwood. Continued growth led to the acquisition of the Bait-ul-Rahman Mosque in 2015, a spacious campus in Monroe that now serves as the regional hub for more than 500 members. The site hosts religious services, educational programs, and gatherings for the community’s auxiliary organizations.
Today, the Seattle chapter reflects a blend of spiritual devotion and public engagement. Guided by the worldwide leadership of the Fifth Caliph, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the community emphasizes service, interfaith cooperation, and peaceful coexistence. From opening its doors to neighbors to participating in humanitarian initiatives, the Jamaat strives to embody its enduring motto: Love for All, Hatred for None.
